In an attempt to squash the ever-growing rumor mill concerning false claims that multiple teachers were questioned or taken into custody on Tuesday at Grayson County High School, the Leitchfield Police Department issued a statement on its Facebook page early Tuesday evening.

The rumors seemed to multiply exponentially after it became public knowledge late Tuesday  morning that Grayson County Middle School teacher John Cariel was arrested on multiple child-sex charges.

LPD’s statement reads:

There are currently several rumors going around that state multiple Grayson County School District employees being escorted out by law enforcement today. In regards to those rumors about multiple teachers involved in current investigations of sexual misconduct, this agency is currently involved in only one active investigation involving student/teacher incidents. That investigation is the one in which Mr. (John) Cariel was arrested. There are no other suspects in that case.

K105 has spoken to Kentucky State Police Post 4 Public Affairs Officer Scotty Sharp who also said he knows of no active investigation involving teachers in the Grayson County School system. Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jarrod Mudd additionally said that the GCSO currently has no active investigation regarding teacher misconduct.
