Caneyville Elementary made it one for the books with its first-ever Regional Championship during Governor’s Cup academic team competition on March 3.
Clarkson Elementary placed second in the region, as all district schools finished in the top five. Sixteen teams participated in Region 7 competition, which includes Breckinridge and Ohio County schools.
Caneyville also took second in Quick Recall, with individual awards going to Eldon Williams (1st in Science), Brandon Lindsey (1st in Social Studies) and Kierson Chambers (1st in Composition).
The team is coached by Brittany Allen and Laura Grant.
In addition to coming in second overall, Clarkson placed third in Quick Recall, with individual accolades going to Will Johnson (1st place in Math, 2nd in Social Studies), Sydney Powell (4th in Math) and Araya Moore (3rd in Arts and Humanities).
The team is coached by Julie Decker and Felicia Higdon.
Wilkey Elementary won first place in Future Problem Solving and fourth in Quick Recall, with Norea Watson coming in first in Language Arts.
Wilkey is coached by Amanda Clark and Andrea King.
Lawler Elementary won Quick Recall and came in second in Future Problem Solving. Individual honors went to Houston Brooks (5th in Math) and Braeden Sadler (5th in Science). The team also received the coveted Hume Sportsmanship Award, selected by of all competing teams.
Lawler coaches are Joe Kolter and Bobbie Jo Noblett.
