On Monday night, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosted an informational meeting at Rough River Dam Lodge on the ongoing dam remediation project.

An update on the project was provided to the 189 people in attendance by the lead Geotechnical Engineer for the project, Will Ailstock.

Ailstock told attendees that engineers will not execute an early drawdown of the lake in the summer of 2019 as originally planned. Cancelling the drawdown was the result of the structural integrity of the dam’s conduit, which is the concrete tube by which engineers remove water from the dam, being brought into question because of unanticipated loads the construction process will place on the conduit, according to Ailstock.

The project is now in a re-evaluation phase, as engineers determine what alternative is the best option going forward.
