The National Weather Service (NWS) said the Ohio River has reached its highest point in 20 years.
Due to incessant rain over the last several days, the river reached 60 feet Sunday morning, eight feet above flood stage. It’s the highest recording since 1997, when the river reached 64.7 feet, according to the Associated Press.
Rain totals were between 1.5 and 2.5 inches on Saturday night and into Sunday morning in the Louisville area. The NWS said tributaries feeding the Ohio River will likely keep the river above flood stage throughout the week.
According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, on Sunday afternoon, Rough River Lake’s water level was nearly 35 feet over winter pool at 505.17 feet and rising (summer pool is 495 feet). Rough River at Dundee was at 27.97 feet and falling.
