On Friday night, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office performed a traffic stop on vehicle driving erratically, and with excessive window tinting, on Hwy 231, about four miles north of Hartford.

Police said the driver, 34-year-old Andrew Gillaspie, of Owensboro, was hesitant to comply with the deputy’s requests to step out of the vehicle so a field sobriety test could be performed. Once out of the vehicle, Gillaspie kept his hands behind his back, according to authorities, raising the deputy’s suspicion.

Deputies then discovered Gillaspie was attempting to conceal bags of methamphetamine and digital scales.

He was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance (meth), DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, excessive window tinting, and rim or frame obscuring lettering or decal on license plate.

Gillaspie was lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center.
