A former Hopkinsville police officer is facing official misconduct charges after allegedly trading sex for an arrest.
Authorities said the officer, Daniel Gray, has been charged with two counts of first-degree official misconduct (a class A misdemeanor) after he agreed not arrest a woman if she had sex with him.
Multiple media outlets report that Kentucky State Police arrested Gray after the woman said she had sex with Gray multiple times at a hotel, in lieu of the officer not arresting her for violating her probation.
According to a criminal complaint, on November 25, 2016, Gray reportedly served an arrest warrant for a probation violation, but instead of taking the woman to directly to the Christian County Jail, he drove her to the Fairview Inn in Hopkinsville where the two engaged in sex, according to the Kentucky New Era.
On another occasion in August of this year, Gray and an officer trainee discovered the woman at the American Inn, with Gray declining to serve arrest warrants on her. Gray told the officer trainee that the reason he wasn’t arresting the woman was because she provided good information to him.
Gray has reportedly admitted to having sexual relations with the woman on two occasions. He has resigned his position with the HPD.
