The Rochester Dam in Butler County will receive much-needed repairs courtesy of the federal government, Senator Mitch McConnell announced late last week.
The nearly 180-year-old dam will receive $3 million in repairs; including adding more boulders and holding them in place with wood pilings, driven into the riverbed.
The Rochester Dam was first built in 1838 with rocks held in place by wood.
The dam helps provide water to nearly 50,000 people, and a dam failure could significantly lower the water level, possibly resulting in residents in Ohio, Butler and Muhlenberg counties having no water supply.
