Mammoth Cave National Park is receiving more than $500,000 in renovations in a project expected to last three years.

The park, under new management as of January, began undergoing renovations to the café, gift shops, guest rooms, and cottages. Ortega National Parks, the park’s new management company, is overseeing the renovations, which are expected to take about three years to complete.

The Mammoth Cave Hotel, renamed the Lodge at Mammoth Cave, was built in the 1960s. The rooms were deemed too small resulting in Ortega closing most of the guest rooms while room renovations took place. The updates made the Lodge at Mammoth Cave more sustainable by using LED lights and reclaimed wood, according to WDRB.com.

The lodge’s café was expanded to three times its original size, and cabin rooms were made more modern.

The park underwent an extensive $3 million renovation and rehabilitation from 2014 through last year.
