After nearly five days of searching, the body of a man who drowned in Barren River in Bowling Green has been recovered.

The drowning occurred on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:20 when the victim, now identified by WNKY.com as 48-year-old Kevin Gidcumb, of Hadley, was seen swimming near the River Street bridge when he went under the water and failed to emerge.

Gidcumb’s drowning marks the second drowning death in 23 days in nearly the same location. As K105 previously reported, on September 20, a 17-year-old male drowned while attempting to swim across the river to friends near the River Street bridge.

The teenager’s body was recovered on September 22.

The investigation into Gidcumb’s death is ongoing.
