A man has been killed in a high-speed crash while fleeing police.

Timothy S. McCulley, 36, of London, was fleeing the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Thursday night at approximately 9:30 after he allegedly committed a theft in Monticello, according to Kentucky State Police.

As McCulley approached the intersection of Hwy 914 and Hwy 80 just east of Somerset, he lost control of his 2008 Pontiac G8 and crashed into a rock embankment at a high rate of speed, state police said.

McCulley was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.

One of his passengers, 30-year-old Brandie Messer, of Artemus (Knox Co.), was airlifted to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in critical condition. Another passenger, 41-year-old John J. Hart, of Corbin, was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Kentucky State Police is investigating.
