An eastern Kentucky woman listed as a murder victim’s “soul mate” in his obituary has been arrested for killing him.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 49-year-old Victoria T. Strelsky, of London, for the murder of London businessman, 62-year-old Bryan McCarty. Strelsky was arrested Wednesday at McCarty’s former residence about five miles west of London.
On September 25, 2021, McCarty was found shot multiple times inside his home on Maple Grove Road. Laurel County deputies were responding to a welfare check on the farmer and rental property owner after he missed a business meeting.
There was initially a $10,000 reward offered for information on McCarty’s murder. A few weeks later, the reward was increased to $25,000.
“This guy was real well known, everybody knew him in the area, and he was known to be a great guy, very generous guy, and you know it was a shock to the community whenever he was killed,” Deputy Gilbert Acciardo told news outlets.
“During the course of the investigation, multiple search warrants were executed at two residences belonging to the victim, and evidence seized,” Sheriff John Root said. “On March 23, 2022, based on investigative results, an arrest warrant was obtained” for Strelsky.
McCarty’s obituary listed Strelsky as his “soul mate.”
Police have not revealed a motive for the killing.
Strelsky was charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree forgery and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond.
