Kentucky State Police is investigating after an officer-involved shooting near Churchill Downs in Louisville.

The Louisville Metro Police Department responded Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:00 to the report of a woman being robbed and assaulted by a white male at her residence on Paul Avenue, about a half-mile west of Churchill Downs.

Louisville police spokeswoman Officer Beth Ruoff told news outlets that the robbery suspect stole “property” from the victim then fled the scene on foot.

An officer soon observed a man who fit the description of the suspect between two homes on Clara Avenue, one block south of Paul Avenue. The suspect though, dropped to the ground and brandished a firearm and pointed it at the officer. The officer then fired, striking the suspect.

The suspect was transported to a Louisville hospital where he’s listed in stable condition.

No other details of the shooting have been released.
