A Louisville man is behind bars in Bullitt County after he allegedly committed an armed carjacking in southern Indiana before leading police on a pursuit that ended near Shepherdsville.
Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Scotty Sharp said that on Monday afternoon at approximately 2:00, troopers joined the multi-agency pursuit at the 117-mile marker of I-65 after a vehicle was carjacked in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Soon after the carjacking, Jeffersonville police spotted the suspect and gave chase, with speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.
Sharp said the chase ended near the I-65 Welcome Center, just south of Shepherdsville. The Louisville Metro Police Department SWAT team was requested, with the suspect, 55-year-old Jeffrey A. Thomas, “taken into custody without incident” soon after the SWAT team’s arrival.
Thomas was charged with receiving stolen property, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, fleeing or evading police, DUI (aggravating circumstances), speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, and reckless driving along with non-moving violations.
He was transported to University of Louisville Hospital as a precautionary measure and later lodged in the Bullitt County Detention Center.
