A man driving the wrong way on an exit ramp in Elizabethtown has been busted with over 100 pounds of marijuana.
Kentucky State Police said that on Saturday morning at approximately 1:00, troopers observed a 2005 Kia Sorrento, being driven by 47-year-old Jose M. Garcia, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, traveling the wrong way on the I-65 southbound exit ramp at the 91-mile marker.
As troopers made contact with Garcia, they detected “a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle,” according to police. During a search of the car, troopers located about 120 pounds of marijuana in three large boxes and a duffel bag.
Police also found methamphetamine and two handguns.
Garcia was charged with trafficking in marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, careless driving, and improper turn (driving on a limited access highway). The drug charges are enhanced due to the presence of firearms.
He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
