Two small children and their mother have been found stabbed to death in a small, northern Kentucky town.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said that on Sunday night, 31-year-old Monique S. Pena and her two children, 12-year-old Nikki R. Pena and three-year-old Katie Farrell-Pena, were found deceased in an apartment in the Overland Ridge area of Walton, a small town of about 3,600 people approximately seven miles south of Florence.

All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene and had suffered multiple stab wounds.

Pena’s longtime boyfriend, 36-year-old Matthew Farrell, was also found with stab wounds to his torso and neck. He was airlifted to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released.

According FOX19 in Cincinnati, the 911 dispatch transcript of the call indicates Farrell called police and advised he had been stabbed by a female, and that she was still in the apartment.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said the stabbing was isolated to the residence and law enforcement does not believe any “outside suspects” were involved.

The investigation is ongoing.
