Elizabethtown Police Chief Jeremy Thompson released further information on the second of two deadly officer-involved shootings that occurred over a five-day period.

The Saturday morning shooting took place outside an apartment complex on Wingfield Court, behind Abound Credit Union just off Ring Road.

Thompson said in the video statement that the decedent, whose name has not been released, had outstanding warrants for his arrest for second-degree stalking, third-degree criminal mischief and harassment (with physical contact).

The suspect also had an unserved EPO/DVO taken out against him by a woman. Thompson added that the man was armed when confronted by police.

As the unnamed officer approached the suspect, he became “violent” toward the officer, Elizabethtown police spokesman Chris Denham told The News-Enterprise on Saturday. An altercation ensued with the officer shooting and killing the man.

The officer was treated at Baptist Health Hardin for injuries sustained during the altercation.

Thompson said body camera footage has been turned over to the Kentucky State Police Critical Response Team, who is investigating both shootings.

While giving his video statement, Thompson was flanked by Elizabethtown Mayor Jeff Gregory, a former Kentucky State Trooper.

The first of the two shootings occurred Tuesday night around 5:45 when an Elizabethtown officer responded to a violent domestic disturbance on Pleasant View Drive, parallel to North Dixie Highway in a densely residential area.

At some point after the officer arrived, he fired his weapon, striking and killing the suspect, police said.
