Kentucky State Police has started collecting non-perishable food items for families in need during the Holidays.

KSP’s yearly event, “Cram the Cruiser,” has begun at all 16 Kentucky State Police Posts, including Post 4 in Elizabethtown.

Police said the collected food is distributed to food banks, shelters, churches, and other groups.

The food collection drive continues until December 6.

Troopers will be at grocery and retail stores accepting products such as canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, cake mixes, water, and powdered milk. Food items may also be dropped off at any of the 16 KSP posts.

Capt. Paul Blanton, KSP Public Affairs Commander, says “Cram the Cruiser” has become a friendly competition among posts to see which post gathers the most food. In 2019, KSP collected 473,235 pounds of food, with Post 16 Henderson topping all posts by collecting 60,925 pounds (due to the coronavirus pandemic, the food drive was canceled last year).

KSP Elizabethtown Post 4 is at 954 Cameron Ponder Drive.
