A Hardin County man is facing animal cruelty charges after several animals were found dead in cages and covered in feces at the suspect’s home.

On Friday afternoon, Charles E. Skaggs, 50, of Elizabethtown, was charged with second-degree animal cruelty and first-degree criminal mischief after Hardin County deputies and Animal Control personnel responded to his trailer and found “cages upon cages in the home filled with inches of feces and several dead cats and dogs,” according to The News Enterprise.

There were many other animals in cages and covered in feces.

The mobile home, according to the newspaper, was beyond repair.

Skaggs was lodged at the Hardin County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
