At Tuesday’s Grayson County Fiscal Court meeting, magistrates voted to assist the city of Caneyville with its water system rehabilitation project.

Fiscal Court is financially supporting the Caneyville Water rehab project after official bids for the venture came in over budget, according to Caneyville Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Geary.

The court voted to approve giving $450,000 in ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funds to ensure the city supplies its roughly 800 customers with reliable water service.

Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson noted that the Grayson County Water District (GCWD) will be “taking over” the Caneyville Water system soon, as the GCWD is already performing meter reading and other duties.

Tax time

Sheriff Norman Chaffins said that property tax bills will be mailed on October 29. He added that residents should receive their bills by November 3 (or so). If anyone receives a bill prior to November 1, the sheriff said his office cannot accept tax payments before November 1.

Chaffins encouraged anyone who fails to receive a bill by November 4 or 5 to contact the sheriff’s office at 270-259-3024, and officials will make sure a copy of the bill is provided.
