Only a handful of Kentucky school districts have failed to enact mask mandates for students, teachers and visitors.

In an early September special session, the Kentucky General Assembly voted to eliminate Gov. Andy Behear’s mask mandate for schools, placing the decision on whether to mandate masking in the hands of local school boards.

On September 14, the Grayson County School Board unanimously voted to enact a mask mandate in its schools.

According to the Kentucky School Board Association, 165 of the state’s 171 (96 percent) school districts now require students, staff and visitors to wear a mask when inside school buildings.

Only Hickman, Gallatin and Mercer County School Districts, along with Burgin and Science Hill Independent School Districts do not currently have a mask mandate.
