A kidnapping in western Kentucky has ended in a murder-suicide in central Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police said that on Wednesday morning at approximately 8:00, 65-year-old Thomas Hungerford, of Cadiz, “forcefully kidnapped” 53-year-old Tammy Beechum, of Dover, Tennessee, from the parking lot of her job on Lafayette Street, in the heart of Cadiz.
Hungerford was Beechum’s estranged boyfriend, police said.
The pair was spotted by troopers in Lancaster (Lincoln Co.) Wednesday afternoon. Hungerford led police on a brief chase on Hwy 27 that ended just outside of Stanford. As troopers arrived at the vehicle, they found Hungerford and Beechum deceased in an apparent murder-suicide.
“I wish I could say these things don’t happen, but unfortunately they do. They shouldn’t happen,” Trooper Adam Hall said. “Investigators will be doing interviews and speaking with family to try to understand why this transpired, though I’m not sure you can find a good reason. But I don’t see the real solution here. Two individuals are deceased, and now families are without loved ones, and our thoughts are with them.”
