Kentucky State Police is investigating the third officer-involved shooting in Trigg County since October 2020.
Trigg County Sheriff Aaron Acree said the latest shooting occurred Thursday morning when deputies were trying to serve a warrant. As deputies made contact with the suspect, he picked up a 2×4 piece of wood and tried to hit a deputy. At least one deputy responded by shooting the suspect multiple times.
The man was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred in Rockcastle, a small community on Lake Barkley, about seven miles northwest of Cadiz.
In early February, deputies were dispatched to a report of a suicidal man. Shortly after they arrived, the man shot at deputies, with police returning fire, striking the suspect multiple times.
In October of last year, Acree responded to a report of a man cutting a hole in the floor of his home. When the sheriff arrived at the home about three miles northwest of Cadiz, the suspect, 44-year-old Bennie Biby and Acree became involved in a physical altercation, with Acree shooting Biby several times in the chest.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
