The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said a shooting in McHenry “appears to be self-defense.”

The shooting occurred Friday night at approximately 11:00 when deputies, the Beaver Dam and Hartford Police Departments and Kentucky State Police responded to a residence on Howard Street. Upon arriving at the scene, police found 33-year-old Joshua Annis, of Morgantown, had been shot in the lower abdomen.

Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty said the person who shot Annis, 42-year-old Josh Moore, of McHenry, appears to have shot Annis in self-defense.

Annis was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Beatty said the investigation is ongoing and the findings will be presented to a Butler County Grand Jury.

Annis was convicted in Warren County for third-degree assault of a police/parole officer in 2016, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Also in 2016, Annis was convicted in Butler County for third-degree assault (of an officer transporting inmates).

He was indicted in Butler County in 2016 for terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, alcohol intoxication in a public place, second-degree disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, and third-degree criminal mischief.
