A Hartford homeowner has shot a man who illegally entered his residence early Saturday morning.

Ohio County Sheriff Tracy Beatty said that Saturday morning just after 4:00, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Hartford police, responded to the report of an unknown person attempting to unlawfully enter a residence in the 3200 block of Livermore Road, about five miles northwest of Hartford.

As the suspect, later determined to be 52-year-old Joe Davis Snooks III, of Paducah, tried to enter the home he was shot in the knee by the homeowner.

Beatty said, “At the time of the incident the suspect appeared to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance.”

Snooks was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for treatment.

The incident remains under investigation, as Snooks faces burglary and possibly other charges.

Snooks was convicted in Warren County in April 2016 for manufacturing methamphetamine, third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief and is on probation until 2031, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
