The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a market on Caneyville Road (Hwy 79) was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday afternoon.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the armed robbery at Vanburen’s Market at 5740 Caneyville Road at 4:00, as the two white males who robbed the store left the area traveling north on Caneyville Road.

Sheriff’s office Lt. Sonny Poteet and Deputy Rick Mehlbauer, along with Constable Alvin Dockery, converged on the area, with all three officers arriving in and around Caneyville within minutes of being informed of the robbery.

The vehicle the two men fled in was described as a navy blue SUV, possibly a Volvo.

The vehicle was seen driving north on Caneyville Road just a few miles south of the Grayson/Butler County line as Dockery positioned himself near the county line. The vehicle, though, was not seen again.

Along with Poteet, Mehlbauer and Dockery scouring the area for the vehicle, Sgt. Fred Norder patrolled the Short Creek and Yeaman areas without success.

UPDATE 6:20 p.m. — According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, one of the suspects (the suspect who brandished the firearm) stands about 6-feet to 6-feet-1 and has dark hair. The second suspect was wearing white skinny jeans and a dark hoodie. Both suspects were wearing masks but appeared to be young. Both suspects are described as “slender.”

Anyone with information on this armed robbery is asked to contact the Butler or Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.
