A man who formerly lived in Grayson Co. has been arrested after shooting his father and grandfather in Hart Co. Friday night.

According to Kentucky State Police, 21-year-old Alexander S. Gardner, formerly of Grayson Co. but who currently lives and is originally from Hart Co., shot his father, 46-year-old Jerry R. Gardner Jr. and grandfather, Jerry R. Gardner Sr., both of Cub Run but who also formerly lived in Grayson Co., multiple times with a handgun.

The shooting occurred Friday night just before 6:00 at the residence at 13442 Cub Run Highway.

Both victims were transported to University of Louisville Hospital where they are listed in stable condition, according to state police.

According to a law enforcement source familiar with the incident, the victims were shot up to four times each with a .22 caliber handgun. An unconfirmed report indicates Alexander S. Gardner brandished the firearm during an argument, with the gun firing as the two victims attempted to disarm him.

Alexander S. Gardner is being held in the Hart County Jail where he’s been charged with two counts of first-degree assault (domestic violence).

Gardner Jr. was also shot in April 2018 by his uncle, Oval Willis Jr., after Gardner Jr. drove a truck near his uncle’s Grindstone Road home and opened fire at the residence. Willis Jr. returned fire, striking Gardner Jr. in the shoulder.

The Grindstone Road shooting was the culmination of a family dispute over property.

Both Gardner Jr. and Willis Jr. were indicted by a Grayson County Grand Jury for their roles in the shootout; Gardner Jr. for first-degree wanton endangerment and Willis for first-degree wanton endangerment and first-degree assault.
