One person has been killed after a truck slammed into the back of a semi-truck on the Cumberland Parkway in Barren County.

Kentucky State Police said that Saturday morning just before 6:30, troopers responded to the two-vehicle accident at the one mile marker of the parkway. The initial investigation showed that 41-year-old Joseph Phelps, of Dunnville (Casey Co.), was driving a 2006 International semi-truck when a 2001 Dodge pickup, being driven by 35-year-old Luis Segura, of Monticello, struck the rear of semi.

Police said a passenger in Segura’s vehicle, 35-year-old William Barnes, also of Monticello, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.

Luis Segura was airlifted to the Vanderbilt University Hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition, according to state police.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by Trooper Mike Wathen.
