A Bullitt County man has been shot and killed by Kentucky State Police following a seven-hour standoff.

State police said that at approximately 10:45 Tuesday night, troopers responded to a wanted man who barricaded himself inside his residence on Mandarin Court in Shepherdsville.

The preliminary investigation revealed that officers with the Shepherdsville Police Department were attempting to make contact with 22-year-old Tyler Blevens, who was wanted on several felony warrants, including wanton endangerment of a police officer.

Police said as officers approached Blevens “he proceeded to barricade himself inside his residence.” At that time, Shepherdsville police requested KSP’s Special Response Team (SRT) to assist.

The special response team arrived Wednesday morning at 1:15 and continued negotiations with Blevens into the early morning hours.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m., Blevens exited the residence with a firearm and attempted to enter a vehicle. Troopers gave repeated verbal commands for Blevens to drop his weapon but he refused, police said. Troopers then fired on Blevens, striking and killing him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bullitt County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation into the shooting is being led by KSP’s Critical Incident Response Team.
