Two married Elizabethtown police officers had an eventful date night on Saturday as the couple thwarted an armed robbery in Louisville.
Saturday night at approximately 9:50, Detective Chase McKeown and his wife, Nicole, were eating at Raising Cain’s Chicken Fingers on Bardstown Road when a man entered the restaurant wearing a mask and carrying a handgun, according to media reports. While the suspect, 30-year-old Justin Carter, of Louisville, was at the counter, the two officers drew their weapons and charged, with the suspect running out of the restaurant.
The officers chased and caught Carter, who dropped his gun during the foot chase, on Beechwood Avenue. The couple held the suspect at gunpoint until Louisville police arrived.
Carter, a convicted felon, used a weapon in the attempted robbery that was stolen from the Jeffersontown Police Department. He was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property and robbery and lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections.
The McKeowns, who met when Chase was an officer and Nicole worked as a dispatcher, have been married for six months.w
