After a corruption investigation by the FBI and Kentucky State Police resulted in the dismissal of an officer and the indefinite suspension of the police chief and another officer, the Horse Cave Police Department has hired the first woman police chief in its history.

Heather Childress was promoted within the Horse Cave PD ranks to interim police chief earlier this month. Childress has been in law enforcement since 2000, and has worked in the Hart County Sheriff’s Office and Munfordville and Radcliff Police Departments.

Last year, federal authorities and KSP began an investigation into officers planting evidence, using excessive force and other corrupt activities. Police Chief Sean Henry and Officer Chris Trulock were suspended indefinitely while Officer Larry Dale Martin was fired.
