Driver killed after leaving I-65 and hitting disabled semi-truck

Sunday morning at approximately 11:05, Kentucky State Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the 19 mile marker of I-65.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that 74-year-old Charles D. Elzy, of Louisville, was driving a 2018 Hyundai Tucson north when his vehicle left the roadway and traveled into the emergency, striking a disabled 2004 International semi-truck, occupied by 48-year-old Robert Humphrey, of Johnson City, Tennessee.

Elzy was transported to The Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Humphrey was not injured in the collision.
