It’s that time of year again and the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help.

Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said that, “Each year, the GCSO, the Leitchfield Police Department, Kentucky State Police, and officers from other agencies team up in an effort to make Christmas special for underprivileged children and their families by hosting our annual ‘Shop With A Cop’ program.”

Chaffins said that last year the effort raised approximately $8,000, which is law enforcement’s goal this year.

Last Christmas, officer shopped for about 45 children and did not turn away any family’s request for help, Chaffins said, adding that “this program would not be possible without the financial assistance from our community.”

Selected kids will shop with the cops at Walmart on December 16.

“This program gives underprivileged kids the opportunity to see the police in a positive way rather than us responding to their home,” Leitchfield Police Chief Bryan Langdon said about the program.  Chaffins added that “the officers and volunteers have as much fun, if not more, than the kids during this time, and after 23 years of shopping with the kids I have seen many success stories, and it never gets old!”

The participating kids will be treated to free pizza and drinks after the shopping trip.

Donations may be brought to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office or the Leitchfield Police Department, or mailed to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office at 44 Public Square, Leitchfield, KY 42754.

Chaffins said, “All donations are greatly appreciated.”
