The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office are engaged in a massive manhunt for two Millwood men wanted in connection with a Thursday morning murder on Southland Drive, in Caneyville, and a bank robbery in Fordsville.
The two suspects, Robert Carter and Johnny Haynes, were last seen in a black Chevrolet pick-up truck bearing license plate 992-RTW. The vehicle has chrome wheels and a bow tie on the back. The men are considered armed and dangerous.
The situation began Thursday morning at approximately 5:45 when the Butler County Sheriff’s Office contacted Grayson County Dispatch informing officials that a truck had just been stolen and was traveling toward Grayson County. Unconfirmed reports indicate Carter stole the truck.
Forty-five minutes to an hour later, Grayson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on Hudson Road after a female arrived there and told the occupants that her husband had just killed someone.
GCSO Deputies arrived at the residence and were there for no more than 10 minutes, before leaving for the home on Southland Drive where a Caneyville man was found shot to death.
Police identified the murder suspect as Carter, and the manhunt began. At the request of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police took the lead in the murder investigation.
A short time later, Carter arrived at his grandmother’s home and borrowed $20 and told her he was going to rob a bank, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. At about 10:00 Thursday morning, Carter robbed the Commonwealth Bank in Fordsville. Carter entered the bank, brandished a pistol and demanded money from the bank teller. The teller complied and he fled the scene in the black Chevrolet pick-up truck with Haynes, traveling east on Hwy 54.
Police have received and followed-up several leads on the suspect’s location throughout the morning and early afternoon, but have thus far been unsuccessful in locating Carter and Haynes.
K105 is waiting for approval from the Grayson County Coroner’s Office before releasing the name of the deceased.
K105 will have more information on this developing story as it becomes available.
