Late Friday night, Kentucky State Police responded to a home on Hwy 92 near Monticello after being requested by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arriving at the residence, police found that 57-year-old Paul Dolen had shot and killed his wife, 57-year-old Sandra Dolen, at the couple’s home. Authorities said Paul Dolen then drove a short distance to his cousin’s home and shot and killed 62-year-old Russell Dolen.

When the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene, they found Paul Dolen in a barn on his family’s property, armed with two handguns and a rifle, according to Kentucky State Police. Dolen then fired shots in the deputies’ direction. Wayne County deputies returned fire, striking and killing Dolen.

Kentucky State Police is working to determine a motive for the murders.
